Leveraging Development to Fix Broken Streets

The 5M Project is a major mixed use development on 5th Street, in the heart of the emerging South of Market.  As transportation planner, Greg worked with the sponsor to dramatically widen the fronting sidewalk and create an elegant pedestrian realm.  Across the street, Greg directed the sponsor to remove a pedestrian-hostile "porkchop" channelized right turn lane, enabling the substantial widening of the opposite sidewalk as well.  Greg also negotiated a reduction in project driveways, including their removal from 5th Street, and pioneered new driveway standards to maximize pedestrian safety. 

The result is be an entire block of redesigned and reconstructed streetscape, setting the stage for planned protected bikeways and other corridor enhancements, at zero cost to the taxpayer.
